A 10-Foot Island and Dishes on Display – A Kitchen Remodel for the Entertaining Homeowner

rauhauser-complete-6In so many ways, the kitchen is the heart of the home – the place where everyone gathers for meals, conversation and comfort.

When a client hires us to remodel a kitchen, it always feels like a very personal assignment. We are redesigning the very spirit of the home.

In this project, our client hired us to remodel the first floor of her new home. Our client, Pat, is new to the area. She had purchased an existing home in a subdivision and wanted her new space to feel like her own.

rauhauser-complete-8As you can see from the before photos, we did some demo and construction to give Pat and her family the design they envisioned.

There was once a pantry where the gorgeous new French doors now stand. We also turned the small closet off the garage entry into a message center that serves as a landing space for purses and a phone charging station.

We focused a lot of our time and energy on the kitchen. Pat loves to entertain, and dreamed of a space to display her dishes and entertaining table ware. We converted the existing pantry into the perfect display area for all those items.

Since we still needed a pantry, we used the front hall closet to create a new one. We used a barn door, which Pat painted herself, as the door to the new pantry. It cleverly slides in front of the basement stairwell.

Pat wanted a large island to entertain guests and display for food for serving. She got her wish! The new island is more than 10 feet long!

The bar stools at one end give her space for everyday eating. Since the dining room is just around the corner, the expansive island provides ample space for dining without adding another table to the kitchen.

Our good friends at Prosource of St. Louis provided us with the new cabinets, hardware, counter tops and all new laminate flooring, which only elevated the design. We also added a few new appliances.

Pat is thrilled with the completed kitchen and first floor remodel, as are we at Ellen Kurtz Interiors. Browse through the photos to see the space before, during and after the project was completed!
