Taking Interior Design from Country to Transitional

Decorating your home is a huge step towards personalizing your living spaces. Reaching out and finding that level of comfort by making each room warm and inviting can be overwhelming.

Each year, popular color schemes change. At one time, blue, burgundy and beige colors filled interiors of many homes throughout the midwest. That was the case for one of Ellen Kurtz Interiors’ clients. Having decorated the entire home with a country theme, the client was in need of a change. Design taste changes over the years, but it can be frightening to move out of a comfort zone. With an interior designer guiding you along the way, you will learn to take risks that you love.

One client did just that.  This client is on her way to turning her country decor transitional. Read her story below and check back to see the Kravet inspired design.

I wanted to take a minute to properly thank you for all of your help. When I decided that I was tired of the way our home looked, I contacted several decorators to meet with them and to try to find someone that could help me figure out what I really wanted and to give me suggestions, ideas, etc. This was not an easy task…..I interviewed a total of five women and they all tried to “tell” me what I wanted, not one of them was willing to help me figure out what I wanted. That is until I met you.

I remember the Saturday that my husband and I came into the store, I was on a mission to find someone who would help me order the Kravet rug that I found in a magazine. Barb, the local sales rep for Kravet recommended you. You were willing to help, you understood that I wanted to see a sample first before ordering and you contacted Kravet and obtained a sample for me to look at so that I could make sure I liked the colors etc. The rug is simply gorgeous!

My tastes have changed over the years, to the point that I did not care for my color schemes (blue, burgundy, and beige) anymore. You have been wonderful to work with and totally understand that with the start of the rug I was moving out of my comfort zone. You are patient with me and have helped me figure out what I do like, and what I don’t like. I really love working with you and am so thankful that I found you. From the rug we moved to the sofa and I loved your suggestions. When I was ready to pick out paint colors, I would have picked a very neutral color, again you encouraged me to go with some color on the walls and helped me pick out the color which gives the room some warmth. It is simply amazing how a little color on the walls make such a difference in the feel of the room.

The chairs, tables, and lamps we picked out together are simply beautiful and I can’t wait till they arrive. I’m also very excited about the drapery treatments. You come well prepared and I do believe that you have me figured out, even though I haven’t figured me out yet. Going from a country look to a contemporary look has been interesting for me. It takes me a little time to think about things and decide and again, you have been very patient and not pushy with me which I really appreciate. Another thing you helped me think about was a budget. I truly never gave that a thought. I will say that I have found your prices to be in my budget and I truly feel that I am getting very high quality furniture etc that will last and still look good years from now.

My goal when I started out was to come home and look around and say, Ahhhh and love how our home looked. I wanted a warm inviting look. I can honestly say, even though I only have the rug and the sofa in our family room, I do love the look to the point it makes me smile.

Once we have this room complete, I want to move next to our bedroom and can’t wait to see what you come up with. You are a dream come true for me as I didn’t think I would find anyone to work with me and to help me figure things out. I’ve given your name and number to several friends without hesitation and know that they are in good hands with you.
