General Motors Assembly Plant in Wentzville
GM has had its ups and downs the past couple of years and updating the assembly plant was on the bottom of the to-do list. Greg Prestemon, president and CEO of the Economic Development Center of St. Charles County, said the fact that the General Motors plant has recalled many of its workers was “great news for the company and the community.” Prestemon said the staff increases indicate that “GM is back”.
Recently, GM downs are turning up. They have added shifts to the van assembly line and this coming August the plant is holding an open house celebrating the turn of events. The plant is dated and is in need a decor update.
What started out as an appointment to pick paint colors for offices quickly turned into a project revamping the much needed spaces at the General Motors Wentzville Assembly Plant. The plant managers suite, conference room, dining room, tour holding room, and the arch lobby have not been touched since it was built in 1983. The current color scheme certainly reflect the times.
Jill met with staff last week when a group of women led her through the plant. Jill quickly learned about safety requirements when visiting the plant. After watching a training safety video and changing out of her open toe high heels, she was given the grand tour. She found the spaces were dated, and recommended new flooring, paint, ceiling tiles, furniture and art work. This project is moving quickly. Some areas are expected to be completed by July 12. Jill is currently working on a spectacular Lobby design. The lobby has been closed since 2005. Watch for the finished product in the September Newsletter.
