New Hampshire Home Warms Up with Coastal Craftsman Interior Design

When my clients built their retirement home in New Hampshire, they had a few items on their wish list.

They wanted the design of the home to capitalize on the gorgeous views of the water, while still blending in with the environment of the wooded landscape.

For the interior, they envisioned a coastal craftsman style that incorporated their beloved family heirlooms and accessories that reminded them of their life in St. Louis.

Since we designed their home in St. Louis together, I already knew their taste and lifestyle. I was thrilled when they hired Ellen Kurtz Interiors to design their new retirement home.

The couple had a vacation home on the New Hampshire site for years until they tore it down in 2012 to build their dream retirement home.

Cargill Construction built their amazing new home, using high quality elements such as extensive wood work, wood beams, a stone fireplace, bead board ceilings, carsiding and wood floors.

Except for a few family heirlooms and antiques, we ordered all new furniture for the home from companies in North Carolina. I flew up to New Hampshire when it arrived to handle the installation and layout, and oversee placement of all the pictures, artwork and accessories.

Many of the nostalgic accessories came from their home in St. Louis, including the Cardinals baseball stadium seats and the framed uniform that belonged to the client’s father.

In the lower level, we focused on the Americana color scheme and accessories, including the trunk I found made of an old American flag.

The main level is more formal and features a large dining area that seats 12. One of the most unique pieces in the home is the propeller cocktail table I found at a furniture market in High Point. It looks fantastic in the family room!

Every inch of this home is warm and inviting. The only thing better than the home itself is the view!
