St. Louis Homes & Lifestyles Mag Features Ellen Kurtz Interiors Design Project

mag“From Grandma’s House to Chic”

We are very excited to share that one of our recent projects is featured in the September 2016 issue of St. Louis Homes & Lifestyles Magazine!

We completely remodeled the condo of a dear friend and client, and the results are gorgeous! The project is featured in a special Before & After section in the magazine’s most recent issue.

The article’s author, Christine Soucy, perfectly summarizes the motivation for the project:

  • Last year, Pat Perotti downsized from a large home to her mother’s recently vacated villa. Her villa was the same as her neighbor’s, which was the same as their neighbor’s and so on, but that was not Perotti’s style. She wanted to make her new home her own and give it a touch of her feminine class. When she decided to re-do her mother’s old kitchen, she trusted interior designer Ellen Kurtz, of Ellen Kurtz Interiors, to pull off the new look.

I have worked with Pat before, and when we first started work on the condo, she was skeptical that it could ever be the space she dreamed of. She told me several times that she wanted her grandchildren to walk in to her condo and say, “wow we have the coolest grandmother ever!”

Pat wanted her grandkids to look at her remodeled condo and think she was hip!

As the magazine’s article explains, we tackled the project with gusto. We removed a wall and installed all new cabinetry and flooring.

The magazine shows off some amazing pictures of the kitchen, and I’m sharing some photos of the living room as well. We chose a white sofa made with Sunbrella fabric, an outdoor fabric that is very durable and can be washed.

Pat is a dietician by trade and she loves to cook and entertain her family and friends. Since the living space and kitchen are open, we wanted an easy to clean sofa that won’t be damaged if there are spills.

I got a majority of the materials for the project from Prosource – a great resource for everything from flooring to tile.

As we worked on remodeling this condo, Pat’s neighbors were fascinated because all the units have exactly the same layout. Removing the wall made such a significant difference in the space, and the new design is so gorgeous – I think the neighbors might be jealous!
